It hasn’t happened yet. But speaking at the Chaos Computer Club Congress here, German researchers showed how vulnerabilities in some the simplest, but most common phones in the world could conceivably lead to just such a scenario.

No smart-phone application — at least not yet — can accelerate heart rates, inflate muscles or trim waistlines.
To accomplish that, bodies must be moved, not just thumbs, and calories watched.
While apps alone can't transform a beer gut, they at least offer quite a bit of guidance, and they are legion, offering everything from daily yoga poses to videos demonstrating proper bench-press form.
Applications can be downloaded to a computer or smartphone, and not just the iPhone anymore. These days, app developers write software for BlackBerry and Android operating systems too.
Technology giant IBM issued a list of predictions of future technologies culled from a survey of 3,000 IBM scientists, Bloomberg reported, pronouncing cities heated by servers, holographic cell phones and advanced city traffic monitoring as among the prevalent technologies of the next five years. Batteries that “breathe” air and the proliferation of environmental sensors were also included on the list.
“All this demonstrates a real culture of innovation at IBM and willingness to devote itself to solving some of the world’s biggest problems,” Josephine Cheng, a vice president at IBM’s Almaden lab, told the news service. The company predicted batteries would move beyond lithium-ion construction to more energy-dense materials, greatly increasing their power capacity and allowing them to recharge using the air around them.

Google has come out with their latest phone, the Nexus S, which with the help of Samsung, has many features which may make it a success. With this, they have provided some great features to the phone, such as a 4 inch touch screen. An interesting item about the phone, which is care of Google, is the phone is available unlocked, which allows you to take the phone to other carriers. Few manufacturers do this because wireless carriers lock you into a 2 year contract, so they do not see the need here in the US. In Europe, though, people have the ability to change carriers far easier than we do here in the US.

In 2005, Ann Louise Gittleman was diagnosed with a benign tumor of the parotid, one of the salivary glands located just below the earlobe. It's a very rare tumor most often caused by ionizing radiation from X-rays, which she hadn't been exposed to. But, she had been addicted to her cell phone, and on it constantly, for years.
In 2008, researchers in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that individuals who kept their cell phone against one side of their head for several hours a day were 50 percent more likely to develop parotid tumors.
You can now make Skype calls on a whole slew of Verizon Wireless mobile phones.
The carrier says the LG Octane, the Samsung Zeal and the Pantech Crux now have Skype capabilities. Just last week, Skype was added to the brand-new Motorola Droid Pro, the Moto Citrus, LG Vortex, BlackBerry Curve 9330 and Samsung Continuum. That makes nearly two dozen handsets from Verizon that can be used to make Skype calls.
Skype-to-Skype calls on smartphones allow users to chat without using up their monthly minutes; however, you must have a data plan in order to use Skype features. The service first became available in March when nine Android and BlackBerry phones became the first to be Skype-friendly.

Every home needs to have an emergency kit ready in case of a natural disaster. Even if you think one will never happen to you, natural disasters happen in every area of the United States. For example, the West Coast has wild fires and earthquakes. The central United States faces tornados and power outages from thunderstorms. The East Coast endures blizzards and hurricanes. An emergency kit can help you make it through these tough times and could even save your life. Here is how to make an emergency kit that will work well for any type of natural disaster.
The Emergency Broadcast System is getting a modern-day upgrade — moving from the television to the cell phone.
Today (Nov. 16), communications company Alcatel-Lucent announced the creation of the Broadcast Message Center (BMC), a feature that enables government agencies to send immediate alerts to mobile phones in the event of a state, local or national emergency.
The messages, similar to the warnings that periodically interrupt television broadcasts, will be sent via text message using the BMC, and will be geographically-targeted. For example, an alert pertaining to a road closure in a particular town will only be distributed to mobile phones in that area, while a significantly larger group of people will receive text warnings in the event of a city-specific or nationwide crisis.

Google envisions that Android phones will one day replace credit cards, its chief executive said Monday as he showed off a prototype of a mobile phone running a new version of Android.
This new version of Google's mobile operating system, which has the code name "gingerbread," will be out in a few weeks, CEO Eric Schmidt said at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. It will include near-field communication technology that could one day turn your smart phone into a digital payment system, he said: Basically, the phone contains a chip that lets you tap it to prompt real-world interactions, which in the future could include paying for something.
There was a time when mobile phones were meant for communication purpose only and in that also we didn’t get clear sound clarity but, now these mobile phones are coming loaded with features that has made it an integral part of our life. These mobile phones are very useful as they allow us to send and receive mails and messages, they give 24×7 internet access that keeps you updated and connected, you can take good quality pictures and videos with the inbuilt camera and store them and useful other data in the memory space and you can do many other things on these latest smart phones.
The smartphone battle continues. As you know there has been a lot of argument lately about which smartphone is the best? With the recent make over of the windows phone operating system, everyone is wondering whether or not it competes with the iPhone, while the increasingly popular Android operating system is looking to take over the mobile phone industry.
No this article isn’t about comparing phone specs, it’s about which phone lasts longest while being grilled. You have probably seen the can it blend videos thats destroy phones in a blender, well this is stunt was done by a grill company and a social media company that wished to pit the phones up against each other in a test of endurance against the heat. It wouldn’t surprise me if these results started showing up on spec sheets. Check out the full video below and don’t try this at home.
I am having immense difficulties trying to get a £100 deposit back from Three, the mobile phone company. I have sent a letter to them and have spent a month phoning them to no avail. As a penniless student I really can't afford to lose this £100. TS, London
Three said you were actually due a £150 refund in October 2008 and it issued you with a cheque at the time, but it was not cashed. In April 2009, Three therefore credited your account with the £150, which it says was used to pay off your next four invoices. It has sent you a copy of the bill for May 2009 which does indeed show that you were credited with the money. You must have failed to spot that you hadn't actually used your bank account to pay those four monthly bills. You have accepted Three's explanation but said you failed to spot you had been credited with the money because, you claim: "Three's bills are so over-complicated". Do check your bills more closely in future.
A new app that crowdsources information about voice and data speeds on competing cellular phone networks has made its debut on the iPhone.
RootMetrics, an offering from Root Wireless, debuted in the App Store on November 6. The app is designed to let users in two dozen cities use their mobile phones to test the local strength of the AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile cellular networks. Users can also report dropped calls, poor signal, and Internet outages right in RootMetrics, and they can view the aggregated results of all the tests to see which network works best in their neighborhood.

Music subscription service Rdio first gained attention back in June when Kazaa founders originally announced it as their latest foray into the digital music space. The service got official a couple months later with a Web service and apps for Android and iOS devices. Today, Rdio added one mobile OS to the mix: Windows Phone 7.Much like Slacker for Windows Phone 7, Rdio is designed in deference to the operating system. As such, it, too, has a very Zune-like interface--I'm beginning to sense a theme here. As far as music apps are concerned, Rdio competes much more directly with the Zune Pass service. However, it may have a leg up in pricing: Rdio is $9.99 per month, whereas Zune Pass is still $14.99. The latter includes 10 MP3 download-to-own tracks each month, though, which does add value.

The HTC HD7, one of the first smartphones featuring the Windows Phone 7 OS, has sold out, one day after its release. This instantaneous success can be credited either to HTC's impressive track list of making great smartphones or the public's strong interest in Microsoft's revamped mobile OS. Either way, it's a good day for Microsoft -- though there's a long road ahead. HTC Sees Great Launch for Impressive Phone
The HTC HD7 -- with its 4.3-inch WVGA display, second-generation 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 5-megapixel camera -- received positive reviews, with PC World giving it 4 out of 5 stars.
SAN FRANCISCO—HTC's president of the Americas, Jason MacKenzie, compared Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 to AOL on Tuesday.
MacKenzie, speaking at the Open Mobile Summit here, apparently meant the comparison to be a favorable one, otherwise praising Microsoft's newly-launched operating system as one that surpassed Android in both music and games integration.
Microsoft unveiled the Windows Phone 7 lineup on Oct. 7, which included both the HTC Surround<, the HTC HD7, and the HTC 7 Pro.
In a panel discussion, MacKenzie was asked what Windows Phone 7 did better than Android, Google's operating system that HTC has backed with the EVO 4G and other phones.
TDC's music subscription service was launched in Denmark in April 2008 in conjunction with 24-7 Entertainment.
It was an early pioneer of the 'free music bundled with other subscription' concept, being bundled with a mobile/broadband sub.
Consumers have access to a library of 8.6 million tracks, and a streaming component was incorporated last December.
This has been a particularly successful move with 2.5 million tracks streamed in October alone.
Churn was reduced by approximately 50 per cent among TDC subscribers.
November 10, 2010 - MUMBAI, INDIA: The last two years have seen the entry of several Indian brands such as Videocon, Micromax into the mobile handset fraternity.
Even telecom service provider Airtel made its presence felt in this space recently. Now, adding to the lot will be T-Series, who is all set to launch its mobile handsets soon.
T-Series is targeting five percent of market share in the next 18-24 months.
Bhushan Kumar, Chairman and MD, Super Cassette Industries, the owners of T-Series music brand, said, “We found a great synergy between Everest and T-Series. Everest offers the best of both worlds: the experience and depth of a large agency and the agility of a small agency thanks to a team that has worked on the bluest of the blue chip FMCG brands.”

November 07, 2010 - To this day, my favorite Bluetooth headset is still the Aliph Jawbone. It’s comfortable, stylish, and works very well. Now Jawbone is looking to capitalize on that success by spreading their wings into speakers. Here is the Jambox, the first speaker from the Jawbone people. It looks almost like a giant carpeted piece of Lego, but the bright red portable speaker actually connects to any compatible stereo Bluetooth device for some mobile music sharing. The built-in rechargeable battery is said to last up to ten hours at a time.

Coming hot on the heels of the ultra-impressive G2, T-Mobile has returned to its myTouch series with the myTouch 4G. While the G2 is the natural enthusiast flagship, the 4G represents a flagship in its own right of a skinned, curated Android experience. If the G2 is the Droid 2 killer, T-Mobile probably sees the myTouch as the iPhone 4 killer (even the name has a similarity to the popular "iTouch" misnomer, and the 4G / 4 mirrors T-Mobile's matchy matchy naming sense with the myTouch 3G / iPhone 3G... we're just saying, is all). So, what does that mean in practice? Some impressive functionality inside and out, including a front facing camera for video calls, HSPA+ network speeds, and WiFi Calling. How does it all play out in the real world? Let's find out.T-Mobile myTouch 4G hands-on

Budget Android handsets are getting so good that it's making us all tingly. Android hit with the ugly stick
Microsoft has joined the ranks of Apple and Google in placing what, to some, is considered a controversial security measure into its mobile application platform.
Built into Windows Phone 7, and the apps made available through the included marketplace application, is a layer of security that lets Microsoft disable or remove entirely an application from a user's device. The safety feature, it turns out, was also included in Windows 6.5 through the Windows Marketplace for Mobile.
According to a PC Pro interview with Todd Biggs, Microsoft's director of product management for the Windows Phone Marketplace, this is a worst-case scenario type of security measure, and something that is unlikely to be a common occurrence given the company's testing process prior to an app becoming available on the market.

From Foursquare, to Gowalla, to Facebook Places, location-sharing is all the rage. And why not? It’s a fun way to trumpet your favourite bars, restaurants or clubs to your friends.
Too many updates, though, and it’ll inspire some rage as well. Like, knock it off with the Mayor of Starbucks stuff already.
So for NOW’s foray into mobile location-sharing, we developed iPhone applications both as a way to brag about your location and a tool to organize your social life.
